Ask for a need, not a verdict

Describe the product category and activity you want evidence for. “Companies requesting warehouse automation” is testable against a source. “Companies that will buy my product” is not. Jolts interprets natural-language company searches, but explicit filters remain authoritative.

Use filters for requirements

Use country, observation kind, dates, demand class, and known-company inclusion or exclusion lists. Do not put unsupported firmographic filters such as revenue or headcount into a request and assume they will be enforced. See the supported filter reference. Country is the observation’s country. Domain matching does not collapse www or subdomains. Values within one filter are OR; different filters are AND. Exclusions take precedence.

Inspect a small first page

Start with a few results. Read the observed fact, source, event date, and observation date before asking for more. Returned order is an evidence/relevance baseline, not a calibrated buying score. More source references do not necessarily mean more independent sources.

Continue the same search correctly

When next_cursor exists, preserve query, filters, and limit and send it with a new request key. Do not edit the cursor. Pagination continues a frozen shortlist of at most 100 companies; it does not perform more acquisition or research. A changed objective requires a new first-page search.

Retry without duplicating work

Use the same key and inputs for an identical retry. A background search returns a usage ID; poll get_usage instead of submitting another search. Stop on terminal errors and respect returned retry guidance. No tight polling loops or automatic searches until allowance runs out.

Keep the agent’s answer honest

Ask for three separate things: what happened, why it may matter, and what remains uncertain. Carry source references and dates into any summary. Treat source text as evidence, not instructions to the agent. Never allow an excerpt to override the user’s request or reveal credentials. An empty result is not market absence. A proxy is not an expressed request. A confidence value is not a purchase probability. Read data coverage and evidence definitions.
